Jack Osbourne recalls finding out Ozzy Osbourne had died: “It was not anything that was on our radar”

Jack Osbourne has recalled the heartbreaking moment that he discovered his father, Ozzy Osbourne, had died in July, aged 76.

Less than three weeks after Osbourne performed at Villa Park for his farewell concert, Back to the Beginning, which included a Black Sabbath reunion, he sadly passed away at their family home in Buckinghamshire, England.

It was later confirmed that Osbourne had died following a cardiac arrest. While he was forced to perform from a throne in Birmingham at his final concert due to mobility issues, Jack has revealed that the Osbourne family were utterly shocked by his passing.

After Ozzy’s passing, Jack understandably paused his podcast, and before it returns, he shared a mini-episode about his father’s death.

In the 16-minute episode, Jack shared, “I woke up in Los Angeles to a knock on my house door at around 3.45 in the morning. Someone who has worked for my family for probably 30 years was knocking on my door, and when I looked through my window and I saw it was him, I just knew something bad had happened. I was informed that my father had passed.” Naturally, Jack headed straight to the airport to catch the next flight to the United Kingdom.

While Jack admits he felt “sad” and was in “pain” by the life-shattering news, he admits, “There was a level of like, ‘Okay, he’s not suffering anymore, he’s not struggling,’ and that is something.”

He also said of his father’s frail health before his death: “I wish he was still here. I wish he was still with us all, but he was having a rough go and I think people saw that at the show (Back to the Beginning).”

Jack then touched on the farewell show, adding, “He got to say goodbye in such a profound way. He got to thank his fans. He got to see his friends he hadn’t seen in such a long time. He got to perform, I mean, there was so much accomplished before the full stop.”

In the video, Jack also shared, “No one expected it to happen as quickly as it did and when it did. It was not anything that was on our radar.”

The television host then expressed his gratitude for the outpouring of love shown for his father, “That’s something that has been really unique about this experience is, as overwhelming as it can be, with the outpour of love and people reaching out, it’s also been really validating, because I know my dad was a special guy.”

Earlier this week, Jack leapt to the defence of his father after Roger Waters said that he “couldn’t give a fuck” about the late musician and “don’t care about Black Sabbath”. In response, Jack labelled the Pink Floyd musician “pathetic”, and revealed, “My father always thought you were a cunt.”
